About Merrill Matthews

When it comes to navigating complex change management and communications, Merrill Matthews understands the real-world challenges organizations face. With a strong focus on results, Merrill offers a unique combination of strategic thinking, effective methodology, and practical execution that is rare in the field. As partner and cofounder of Spring Management Consulting, Merrill brings more than 20 years’ worth of expertise in the facilitation, design and execution of customized strategies in change management and organizational communications.

Merrill has a passion for understanding her clients’ challenges and helping them successfully navigate change. She has managed a variety of business initiatives, including new business strategy and internal brand implementation, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring communications, stakeholder relations initiatives, and systems implementation, as well as various human resources initiatives such as total rewards, benefits, compensation, pension, and performance development programs. She has shared her expertise with leading financial, health care, professional services and consulting organizations, and other Canadian and American companies.

Before cofounding Spring Management Consulting, Merrill spent a decade as an independent consultant, completing many communications contracts with RBC Financial Group, in the health care sector, and conducting stakeholder research and risk communications in various industries with Decision Partners. She served as a part-time instructor in the Public Relations program at the Humber College School of Media Studies and Information Technology, leading courses in Public Relations Writing, Organizational Communications, and Change Management.

Merrill was also a communications consultant with the former Hewitt Associates (now AON), communications director at London Health Sciences Foundation and media relations coordinator at the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, one of Canada’s highest ranked business schools.

Merrill is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), the Association of Change Management Professionals (ACMP) and the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA). She has received awards from both IABC and the Canadian Public Relations Society for her work. Merrill holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Public Relations degree from Mount Saint Vincent University.
